Nevertheless, Becky Sroufe Coded

I began coding because...

I fell in love with the web and wanted to create something cool to add to it. I saw some really neat websites and wondered how people did it, so I started doodling my own designs but found myself unable to make these ideas into real live websites. I started searching on how to code and started learning HTML and CSS through simple online tutorials people had posted, and it took off from there!

I'm currently hacking on...

Building user-friendly products and experiences for web and mobile.

I'm excited about...

Bringing women together in our community! I co-run Ladies That UX here in my city of Phoenix, Arizona, and it's incredible and amazing to see what happens when you get a group women together to connect and support each other. We empower one another to achieve our dreams and have the strength to unite to put an end to the inequalities we as women face. We are strong, fearless, unstoppable and asbolutely deserving of all the same opportunities and rights that others enjoy.

My advice for other women who code is...

Don't ever believe you CAN'T. You absolutely can, and there may be times it seems impossible or others may make you feel like you weren't meant to do it. Don't let those setbacks stop you - if you want to do it, then DO. Block out the negative words from others who would put you down or dismiss you; they are stomping on you to build themselves up. It's COMPLETELY okay to ask questions, it's okay to not know the answers or even the basics - we all started from knowing nothing and built our way up. It's okay to fail and then fail again, too. It's a part of the journey and the process!
