When I was a kid I always thought it would be cool to have an animated virtual assistant that was present on all my screens. (I wouldn't have called it a "virtual assistant" but it was something like that)

I'd say this was the computer thing I could see could be possible but wasn't. We're closer than ever to having stuff like this with all the audio-based assistants, but I have to say, as a child I didn't really think about all the surveillance concerns. I don't know why these things have to be developed by commerce and ad companies.

Privacy is a major concern in today's world, the more data a company has about you the more user friendly software it makes for you as the recommendations are more accurate with more data. But they can use the same data to manipulate humans. There must be some rule to determine how much personal data must be given to the company and most of the training must be done on the device only and not on servers of companies. In my opinion privacy and ease of use are a trade off. More and more laws must be made to regulate use of data. The data must be used ethically.
