Back Pain Conditions and Possible Causes
Ever since the start of career, I've been spending really more than only 40 hours per week sitting in front of computer desk to use the computer and other devices. Since couple years at the start of my early 40s age, my lower back around belly button level has started to give me some soreness around 2 out of 5. That level of soreness is obviously noticeable when my mind is not busy thinking, so it is ignorable. But when I've sat at least couple hours straight without moving, the soreness might jump to 3 out of 5, which is pretty disturbing. I don't believe it's the fault of my basic office desk with soft-cushion back support. Probably it could be at times I allow my butt to slide forward towards the edge so that'd bend my lower backbone at an angle because there'd be no support at the back corner of the seat.
Corrections and Relief
Obvious I should act immediately to prevent worse symptoms. One common habit to use is definitely periodic standing up away from the seat and stretching and curving backwards slightly at a pace perhaps once per hour. I've already tried adding extra cushion wrapped around the back to provide extra bump to press against the back bone to keep it straight at least. The other exercise I should do occasionally is plank, which is where the body's in push up position but without need to push up from down position.
Tifa from Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII is demonstrating that. Its purpose is to enforce the the abdominal muscles to hold the body straight for at least 5 minutes, and for longer time when strength has advanced. Because plank is not intensive or fast exercise, it cannot quickly slim down our fat tummies. I like to change the arm position to be bent so both forearms and elbows provide extra base support instead of only hands and wrists. And placing arms above softer surface like sofa shoulder would help out too. While doing the plank, I do feel the back soreness is being challenged.
Hopefully all these will relieve the chronic back pain developed over many years of sitting on chair all day.
