Kubuntu 26.04 — Customizing KDE konsole

After customizing KDE in general, you will want to customize its terminal emulator, called "konsole".

Start it and then do these settings changes:

Settings > Manage Profiles > New: MyProfile
Settings > Profiles > MyProfile > Edit > Appearance > Black on White
  Settings > Profiles > MyProfile > Edit > Mouse > Text interaction > Word characters: Remove ':'
Settings > Profiles > MyProfile > Edit > Mouse > Miscellaneous > Preview colors on hover: off
Settings > Profiles > MyProfile > Edit > General > Terminal bell mode: Ignore Bell Events
Settings > Profiles > MyProfile: set as default
Settings > Configure Notifications > Bell in Non-Focused Session: Do NOT show a popup
Settings > Configure Notifications > Silence in Monitored Session: Do NOT show a popup
Settings > Configure Notifications > Activity in Non-Focused Monitored Session: Do NOT show a popup
Settings > Configure Notifications > Silence in Non-Focused Monitored Session: Do NOT show a popup
Settings > Configure Notifications > Activity in Monitored Session: Do NOT show a popup
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

It's a bit of an annoyance with konsole that you can't edit the properties of the default profile. You need to create a new profile, based on the default, of which you can then edit the properties. And you can make that one the new default.

The most useful customization here is to remove the colon from the list of "word characters".

Let me explain: These "word characters" determine what gets selected when you double-click on a cell in the terminal emulator.

I have a GNU bash prompt that looks like this: user@hostname:/current/directory$ . By default, when I double-click on the directory, it would select user@hostname:/current/directory — which is not very useful for me. With the colon removed, when I double-click on the directory, it selects /current/directory — which is useful, because it lets me paste this string anywhere else directly, to form a file name.
