Introduction
If you’ve been in the WordPress world for a while, you’ve definitely heard of WP Rocket. It’s one of the most popular caching and performance optimization plugins out there, widely recommended, widely used.
But it’s not the only option. And for some sites, it's not even the best one.
Maybe you’re looking for something free. Or maybe you need more control, fewer dependencies, or something that works better with your particular setup. That’s what got me curious enough to test out a bunch of lesser-known WP Rocket alternatives, the kind that don’t usually pop up in top 10 blog posts.
I tested all the plugins on the same WordPress site to keep things fair. In this article, I’ll share what each plugin does, what it’s good at, where it falls short and who I think should give it a shot.
How the Plugins Were Tested
All testing was done on a fresh WordPress site with a basic setup with 2 CPU and 2 GB RAM:
- Hosting: Stablepoint
- Theme: Blocksy
- Pages: Homepage, Contact, Blog, and one media-heavy test page
What Was Measured
Google PageSpeed Insights scores (Mobile & Desktop)
What Else Was Evaluated
- How easy the plugin was to install and configure
- Any conflicts with major plugins (like Elementor, WooCommerce, Yoast, etc.)
- How quickly support replied to a basic question
*The lower SEO metric you'll see is related to page indexing being disabled at the moment of testing the plugins, so it can be disregarded.
