Power banks are usually compared using one number: mAh.
That number matters, but it does not answer several practical questions:
- How heavy is the complete charging setup?
- Which devices and interfaces does it support?
- Does it require extra cables?
- What is its watt-hour rating?
- Can it be carried on an aircraft?
- Is wireless convenience more important than wired efficiency?
A better evaluation treats a power bank as part of a charging system—not as an isolated battery specification.
A travel power bank only helps if it is practical enough to carry.
1. Separate capacity from stored energy
Consumer power banks are normally advertised in milliamp-hours.
Airline battery rules generally use watt-hours because Wh describes stored energy:
Wh = voltage × amp-hours
For two practical examples:

Both are below the FAA's general 100Wh limit for lithium-ion batteries carried by passengers. That does not make them unrestricted.

2. Compare the complete carry weight

3. Treat wireless and wired charging as different modes
Magnetic wireless charging optimizes convenience. Wired USB-C charging generally provides better energy efficiency and can be preferable when charging time matters.
Wireless output depends on:
- Device support
- Charging standard
- Case
- Alignment
- Temperature
- Battery level
- Other active outputs
The maximum output printed on a charger is not a guarantee that every connected phone will receive that rate.
4. Verify interface compatibility
"Compatible" can describe several different things:
- The phone can charge wirelessly.

- The phone supports a particular wireless rate.
- The phone can charge through USB-C.

These are not interchangeable.
