Bridge the Logic Gap to Write Addictive Video Scripts

Your audience's brain is naturally lazy. If your video hook makes total sense, they scroll. If you start a video with "The M3 Max is insanely fast, here's why," they already know the answer. Curiosity dead. Retention tanked.

To keep tech viewers glued to the screen, you need to exploit a psychological trigger called the Logic Gap.

A Logic Gap forces the brain to resolve a contradiction. You state two facts that seem to violate common sense when placed next to each other. Because the human brain hates unresolved tension, the viewer has to keep watching to fix the mental bug.

The formula is straightforward:

[Accepted Tech Spec / Norm] + [Opposing Real-World Result] = Instant Retention

Here is how to flip standard hooks into Logic Gap hooks:

  • Standard Hook: "Why I bought a $3,000 custom mechanical keyboard." (Boring. We get it, you like keyboards.)
  • Logic Gap Hook: "I spent $3,000 on a custom keyboard, and it actually dropped my typing speed by 15 WPM. But I'm never going back."

Wait, what? Why would spending more make it worse, and why are you happy about it? The viewer's brain breaks. They have to watch to bridge that gap.

Another one for software/hardware creators:

  • Standard Hook: "Testing Linux on an old laptop."
  • Logic Gap Hook: "I installed Linux on a $50 e-waste laptop, and it somehow exported 4K video faster than my M2 MacBook Air."

Notice the pattern? You aren't clickbaiting with fake promises; you are highlighting a genuine, counterintuitive truth.

Before your next edit, look at your conclusion. What part of your test results or review violates what people expect on paper? Lead with that exact contradiction in your first 10 seconds. Bridge the gap in the rest of your script.
