Ever wonder why viewers drop off in the first 30 seconds of your tech videos? It’s usually because your intro either gave away the conclusion or failed to challenge their brain.
Enter the Logic Gap framework.
While a standard curiosity gap asks "What happens next?", a Logic Gap forces the viewer's brain to ask "How is that logically possible?"
It creates an intellectual itch by presenting two facts that seem to directly contradict each other. Because the human brain hates unresolved logic, the viewer must stay tuned to bridge the gap.
Here’s the basic formula: [Accepted Tech Truth] + [Contradictory Reality] = Addictive Hook.
Let’s look at how this plays out in real video scripts:
- Standard Hook: "Testing the M3 Pro MacBook memory bandwidth." (Boring, zero stakes.)
Logic Gap Hook: "Apple lowered the M3 Pro’s memory bandwidth by 20% compared to the M2. Yet, it renders 8K video faster. Here’s why the spec sheet is lying to you."
Standard Hook: "Is this cheap smart home plug safe?" (Generic.)
Logic Gap Hook: "This $5 smart plug uses higher-grade encryption than a $100 brand-name alternative—until you hit the power switch. Here is the fatal flaw."
Notice the shift? In both examples, the viewer’s technical intuition feels challenged. Less bandwidth means faster renders? A cheaper device is more secure until turned on? Their mental model breaks, and they need you to fix it.
To use this framework in your next script:
- Identify a rule or standard assumption in your tech niche.
- Present a real data point or scenario that breaks that rule.
- Promise to reconcile the paradox by the end of the video.
Stop pitching topics. Start breaking logic.
