Hi everyone,
I'd love to hear any stories about how any of you guys successfully transitioned from your old jobs into software development.
This would be great inspiration for new programmers or those preparing to break into the industry.
Tell us:
1) What you used to do?
2) What your first job entailed ie where, what technologies you worked with, your roles, and what type of development ie front end, web dev, etc
3) What your journey was to get from where you were to securing that first job.
4) Would be great to hear what you are doing right now, what you working on? How have you progressed?
5) And what are your plans for the future?
Can't wait to hear you guys' stories ❤😁

No stories yet, 🤔 that's a shame...
Here's my story so far:
I'm currently preparing to break into the software dev industry so for me:
1) I'm a BMS Installation Engineer in the uk. I can't wait until I can say that this is what I used to do!
2) I've not secured my first position as of yet and I haven't decided what my niche is, but I'm inclined towards web or mobile development. Most of my experience is with Java, HTML5 and CSS3. I look forward to getting my first job and can't wait to find out what roles I will be assigned when I get my first position. I have no idea?
3) So far my journey is enrolling on a 6 year, part-time OU degree(half way through), achieving 3 certificates: HTML5 & CSS3 Specialist, JAVA OCA & MTA Software Development Fundamentals. Hopefully this will soon be enough to start convincing employers to give me a job.
4) I'm currently starting to get experience with gitHub, building connections on here DEV.to and soon to start using stack overflow and I'm about to start building my own projects. I'm also learning version control, javascript, command-line and IDEs, visualstudiocode and IntellijIDEA.
5) My plans for the future are, of course getting my first job as a developer in the next year or so, finishing my degree and this year I'll be getting my certificates in c#7, Python and Java OCP. I need to gain as much experience as possible so that I can identify my niche in this industry.
Come on guys, let's inspire others - tell us your stories.
