Types of file uploads
File uploading is the first step in creating a signature request from scratch. Files can be uploaded to the BoldSign mobile app in multiple ways.
Upload from your device
The simplest way to upload a file in the BoldSign mobile app is by selecting it directly from your device’s storage. You can also select and upload multiple files at once. Follow these steps to upload from your device:
1. Tap Create New Document on the dashboard screen.
2. You’ll be taken to the file upload screen.
3. Tap Upload documents to open your device’s file explorer.
4. From there, simply browse and select the file you want to upload.
Upload from cloud services
You can also upload documents stored in your cloud accounts like Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox. Here’s how to do it:
1. Tap Create New Document on the dashboard screen. Then tap Upload documents to open your device’s file explorer.
2. In the file explorer, tap the menu button (☰) in the top-left corner to open the navigation drawer.
3. You’ll see a list of available cloud storage apps like Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox. Make sure the respective cloud app is installed on your device, and you’re logged in to your account.
4. Tap the desired cloud storage account and select the files you want to upload.
Scan and upload physical documents
If you have a physical document and want to upload it using the BoldSign® mobile app, the scan and Upload feature makes it easy. Here’s how to use it:
- Tap Create New Document on the dashboard screen and then tap Scan documents.
- Permission will be prompted to allow BoldSign® to take pictures and videos. Permit it.
-
The camera will open with two scanning modes:
- Manual Capture: Manually focus the document and tap the capture button.
- Auto Capture: The app automatically detects and captures the document.
After capturing, you can crop, rotate, apply filters, clean up, or retake the image.
-
You can also scan multiple pages and upload them together as a single document.
Upload directly from file manager apps
You can now upload documents directly to the BoldSign mobile app from your file manager apps like Google Files. Simply tap the Share option on your file, then select BoldSign from the list of available apps. The BoldSign app will automatically open and upload the selected file. But make sure the BoldSign mobile app is installed on your device. This feature is supported on both Android and iOS platforms.
In addition to the above scenarios, you can also pick a template from the available templates instead of creating a document from scratch. You can select a template and then customize it as necessary, saving time and effort in document creation.
File management options
After uploading a file, you can rename it, reposition it, replace it with another file, or remove it as needed.
Rename uploaded files
You can rename the uploaded documents in the BoldSign® mobile app. This edited name will also be used as the file name when the document is downloaded after the signing process is completed, provided you choose the download documents individually option. If you select the combined download option, the file will instead be saved using the document title.
To rename the file:
Tap the three dots (⋮) next to the uploaded file.
Select Rename.
When prompted, enter the new file name and tap Update to save the changes.
Reposition uploaded files
You can change the order of the files you’ve uploaded by simply touching and dragging a file up or down. Once you lift your finger, the file will stay in the new position.
Replace or remove uploaded files
If you have accidentally uploaded the wrong file, you can easily replace or remove it.
To replace the file:
Tap the three dots (⋮) next to the uploaded file.
Select Replace.
You’ll see options to upload documents or scan documents. Choose the one that suits your needs.
To remove the file:
Tap the three dots (⋮) next to the uploaded file.
Select Delete.
A confirmation dialog will appear. Tap Yes to confirm the deletion.
Uploading files with fillable form fields
The BoldSign mobile app now supports automatic detection of fillable form fields in PDF documents. When you upload a PDF that contains fillable fields, the app will automatically detect them on the compose screen and prompt you to generate fields.
Once you approve, the fields will be placed in their exact positions within the document—saving you the time and effort of adding them manually. Signature, text box, checkbox, radio button and dropdown fields are supported.
