Tired of Blogger's limitations? Want better design, more features, and complete control over your blog? You're in the right place.
Moving from Blogger to WordPress might sound technical, but I promise—it's easier than you think. In fact, you can do it in under an hour with the right tools.
As someone who has helped hundreds of bloggers make this move, I've created this simple, step-by-step guide that actually works in 2026.
📝 What You'll Need (Don't Worry, It's Simple)
- Your Blogger content (we'll export it together)
- A WordPress website (any hosting works—Bluehost, SiteGround, etc.)
- About 30-60 minutes of your time
- A free plugin I built specifically for this
✨ Good news: You don't need to be technical. If you can copy and paste, you can do this.
🚀 Step-by-Step: Your Pain-Free Migration
Step 1: Get Your Content from Blogger
First, let's download all your posts, pages, and images from Blogger:
- Go to your Blogger dashboard
- Click Settings → Other
- Find "Back up content" and click "Save to your computer"
- You'll get a ZIP file—save it somewhere you can find it
-
Extract the ZIP file to find the
.atomfile inside
⚠️ Important: Blogger changed their format recently. Make sure you have the
.atomfile (not the old XML file).
Step 2: Install the Migration Tool
Here's where most people get stuck. The default WordPress importer doesn't work with Blogger's new format anymore.
That's why I built Feed Importer for Blogger—a free plugin that handles everything automatically.
To install it:
- In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New
- Search for "Feed Importer for Blogger"
- Click "Install Now" then "Activate"
That's it! No configuration needed yet.
Step 3: Upload Your Blogger File
Now the fun part—let's bring your content over:
- Go to Tools → Blogger Importer in WordPress
- Click "Upload .atom file"
- Select the
.atomfile you extracted earlier - Check these boxes (recommended):
- ✅ Import images (downloads your pictures to WordPress)
- ✅ Skip duplicates (won't create duplicate posts)
- ✅ Set first image as featured (makes posts look nicer)
- ✅ Import pages (if you have static pages on Blogger)
Step 4: Start the Import (Watch the Magic Happen)
Click "Start Import" and watch the progress bar. The plugin does all the hard work:
- Downloads your posts one by one
- Grabs all images and saves them to your WordPress gallery
- Preserves dates so your archives stay correct
- Shows real-time progress so you know it's working
How long does it take?
- Small blogs (under 50 posts): 2-5 minutes
- Medium blogs (50-200 posts): 5-15 minutes
- Large blogs (200+ posts): 15-30 minutes
You can leave the page open and watch, or come back later—it keeps working.
Step 5: Set Up Redirects (Keep Your Google Traffic)
This is CRITICAL but easy. When you move, your old Blogger URLs won't work anymore. We need to redirect them so:
- Your readers don't get "Page not found" errors
- Google doesn't drop your search rankings
Easy method (recommended):
- Install the "Redirection" plugin (it's free)
- Go to Tools → Redirection
- Click "Import from Blogger" (Feed Importer creates a file for this)
- Click "Start Import"
That's it! Now when someone visits your old Blogger link, they'll automatically go to your new WordPress post.
Step 6: Check Everything & Celebrate
Take 5 minutes to:
- Browse your posts – Make sure they look good
- Check images – Click a few to see if they load
- Test a redirect – Visit an old Blogger URL (it should work!)
- Pick a beautiful theme – This is the fun part!
🛠 Troubleshooting Common Issues
❌ "My .atom file won't upload"
Fix: Your file might be too large. Ask your hosting to increase the upload limit, or split your export (contact me in Telegram for help).
❌ "Images aren't showing"
Fix: Make sure "Import images" is checked. The plugin downloads them from Blogger and saves them locally.
❌ "I'm getting duplicate posts"
Fix: Check "Skip duplicates" and run the import again. It won't create the same post twice.
❌ "The import stopped halfway"
Fix: This usually means a server timeout. The plugin remembers where it stopped—just click "Start Import" again and it continues.
🎯 Why This Method Beats Everything Else
I've tried all the migration methods, and here's why this works best:
| Method | Cost | Images | Easy? | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manual Copy-Paste | Free | ❌ Broken links | ❌ Very hard | Days |
| Default WordPress Importer | Free | ❌ Doesn't work | ❌ Broken | N/A |
| Paid Services | $50-$200 | ✅ Usually works | ✅ Easy | 1-2 days |
| Feed Importer for Blogger | ✅ Free | ✅ Works perfectly | ✅ Very easy | 30-60 mins |
💡 Pro Tips for a Smooth Transition
- Do it on a weekday morning – Better support if you need help
- Tell your readers – A simple "We're moving!" post helps
- Keep Blogger alive for a week – Redirects need time to work everywhere
- Update social media links – Change your profile links to the new site
- Submit to Google – Use Google Search Console to tell Google you've moved
🤔 "But What About...?"
"...my comments?"
Unfortunately, Blogger doesn't export comments anymore. But you can use Disqus or Facebook Comments on your new WordPress site.
"...my design?"
You'll need a new WordPress theme (thousands are free!). Think of it as a fresh start with better options.
"...my SEO?"
The redirects preserve it completely. Many bloggers see increased traffic after moving to WordPress.
"...my email subscribers?"
If you use FeedBurner, it continues working. For other services, you'll need to move them (usually easy with export/import).
🆓 Why I Built This & Made It Free
After Blogger's 2025 changes, I watched bloggers struggle with:
- Broken importers that wasted hours
- Expensive services charging $200+
- Manual work that took days
So I built Feed Importer for Blogger and made it:
- 100% free (no upsells, no premium version)
- Open source (transparent and community-driven)
- Actively maintained (I update it monthly)
- Community-supported (we help each other in Telegram)
Because moving your blog shouldn't cost money or cause stress.
