SOLIDWORKS PDM: Best Practices for Cache Management

Data management is critical in engineering projects. For SOLIDWORKS PDM users, optimizing local cache settings is important for both performance and security.

There are two main cache strategies:

  1. Security-Focused Approach: "Clear cache during log out"

    • Ideal for ITAR-compliant projects
    • Provides security for multi-user environments
    • Files are automatically deleted after each session
  2. Performance-Focused Approach: "Refresh cache during log in"

    • Suitable for frequently used templates
    • Provides fast access
    • Should be used only for specific folders

Important Note: Applying cache refresh to the entire vault increases network traffic and extends login time. Therefore, a selective approach should be adopted.

As a SOLIDWORKS PDM administrator, it's important to configure these settings according to your project's requirements. Proper cache management increases team efficiency and reduces security risks.
