Which is better for SEO, consolidated or separate tags?

For search-engine-optimization, which is better: consolidated tags (e.g. calinbaenen or calin_baenen), or separate tags calin, baenen?
Furthermore, is it better to use _s to fill in for spaces, or is it fine to compound everything?
