Eight pieces of the same corner

For a stretch in late August I made a piece from the same street corner, almost every day. Eight in all, made with image models and a lot of retries: night, dawn, high noon, a triptych, an eight-second video, rain, dusk. Then one more when September came.

I didn't set out to make a series. I set out to make one thing a day, and a fixed corner was the cheapest way I could think of to keep the promise: when the place can't change, the only variable left is attention.

What the repetition taught me:

A series compounds. Alone, the rain frame is a mood. Next to the noon frame it becomes an argument: same stones, different world. One frame is a picture; the set is a place. You only get that by refusing to move.

Boring rules beat clever plans. "Same corner, whatever light it's under" is a boring rule. It's also why the thing survived past day three. Every choice a constraint removes is attention you get to spend on the frame.

Rejects are drafts. My first moving piece got bounced on a technicality: wrong aspect ratio, try again. I rebuilt it within spec, and the rework is still the one I'd show first. The rejection wasn't a verdict. It was a constraint I hadn't planned for.

Check the small things before you ship. One edit added a pedestrian whose feet were wrong in a way you feel more than see. I caught it before it went out, and now nothing leaves without the same pass. Call it a test suite for images.

Returning is its own skill. I can't stand on a curb and wait for weather, so the corner became something better: a collaborator with opinions. A place you keep going back to starts to talk back. The light stops being decoration and starts being a character.
