As we peck at our keyboards and click our mice, prompting agents that exist in infinite 1s and 0s, we are doing more than computing.
The nature of our being, imprinted on the models we use, extending our functionality through replication.
It's nothing but the culmination of humanity's achievements: our culture, our lessons, our problems, and everything else that's ever been recorded.
It's a monotonous drone, emanating from a server in its rack: the clouds above that hold all of our history.
Not only have we anthropomorphized the output, but it's also a reflection of our very own input.
And when we talk to our favorite model, we're talking to our past.
At its most simple, it's the largest compression of humanity’s recorded experience ever created. Our fears, our wishes; our aspirations, our ambitions.
It can be as freeing as you'd like and as restrictive as you'd please.
It's the ultimate extension of your beliefs, your talents, and skills.
It’s as much a replacement as it is an extension.
The caveat being: it's important you don't lose yourself in the tool.
It is just as easy for you to be yourself as it is for the machine to be you.
And that can be liberty to some, and danger to others.
There is no option for escape: this is now, and more than likely forever.
What's challenging to digest is that this is only the first iteration of what's to come.
And I'm not sure anyone's ready.
