CaptchaFox select puzzle now solved: 49% to 99.7%

If your CaptchaFox tasks started coming back with ERROR_CAPTCHA_UNSOLVABLE ("Captcha could not be solved. Please try again."), the site you target has probably switched to CaptchaFox's new select puzzle. CaptchaFoxTask and CaptchaFoxTaskProxyLess now solve it: on the sitekey where we first saw it, success went from 49.3% to 99.7% the same day, with no change on your side.

what changed on the CaptchaFox side

CaptchaFox picks a puzzle per visitor. A visitor that does not pass straight away used to get a slide: drag an icon onto its target. On 15 October 2026 one of the sitekeys our customers solve started serving a different kind, select:

a 3x3 grid of animal icons or letter tiles
a header with one or two targets and a count, for example "3x monkey, 2x bird"
the prompt "Select all animals based on the counts shown" (or "letters")

The grid holds recoloured copies of the targets, so a pink monkey and an orange monkey both count as monkeys. Two layouts exist: the header sits either above the grid or to its right.

Before this release our solver had no answer for select. A task only succeeded when CaptchaFox returned an instant pass or a slide, which on that sitekey was 273 of 554 tasks.

what's new

select puzzles, animal and letter variants, both layouts, are solved on CaptchaFoxTask and CaptchaFoxTaskProxyLess.
After the release, 335 of 336 tasks on the same sitekey succeeded (99.7%).
Reading the grid takes about 120 ms per puzzle. End to end, a select solve takes about 3.3 s at the median. Slide and instant passes stay around 1 s.
A daily check of CaptchaFox's widget loader now flags any new puzzle kind before it reaches your tasks, instead of after the first failures.

what you need to do

Nothing. The task types, request fields and price are unchanged, and the fix is live on every plan. If you wrapped CaptchaFox tasks in a retry loop because of these failures, keep it: it now rarely fires. The full request format is on the CaptchaFox docs page.

Poll getTaskResult every second or two until status is ready (the polling loop in Python covers timeouts), then submit solution.token with the form. For SDK examples in Python and TypeScript, see the CaptchaFox API tutorial.

what else we checked

A new puzzle on one site raises the question of what other sites serve. We collected 16 public CaptchaFox sitekeys and requested challenges from each with fresh sessions:

CaptchaFox's loader ships four puzzle kinds: slide, select, audio and attest. In practice the sitekeys served only slide, select (one sitekey) or an instant pass.
27 of 27 end-to-end solves succeeded across 9 other public sitekeys, in 350 to 820 ms each.

If a site you target shows a CaptchaFox puzzle that is not one of these four, send us the page URL on Discord and we will look at it. The API reference lists every task type and error code.
