Record CamSoda Streams Locally Using CaptureGem

CamSoda has a dedicated following thanks to its interactive features and strong model variety. If you've ever wanted to save a live show for later without relying on screen recording software, CaptureGem offers a cleaner solution — it intercepts the stream at the source and writes it directly to a file on your hard drive.

What You'll Need
A Windows or macOS computer
CaptureGem installed (download free at capturegem.com)
The username of the CamSoda model you want to record
Enough free disk space (a one-hour stream typically runs 1–3 GB depending on quality)
Recording Step by Step
1
Launch CaptureGem on your computer. The app opens to the Record tab by default.

2
Click the site dropdown and select CamSoda. CaptureGem loads the correct stream resolution and format settings for this platform.

3
In the username field, type the model's CamSoda username exactly as it appears in their profile URL (e.g., camsoda.com/username).

4
Press Start Recording. CaptureGem connects to the live broadcast and begins writing the stream data to a file. You'll see the status indicator confirm the recording is live.

5
When you want to stop, click Stop Recording. The recording is finalized and added to your library in the Review tab.

What Happens in the Background
CaptureGem doesn't re-encode or compress the video while it records. It captures the HLS stream segments that CamSoda is serving and writes them to disk in sequence. The result is a faithful copy of whatever quality CamSoda is broadcasting at that moment — no generation loss, no added artifacts.

The recording process is lightweight on CPU. You can have other things running on your machine without affecting capture quality.

Finding Recordings Later
Saved recordings are stored in your configured output folder. The default is a CaptureGem subdirectory inside your Documents folder, organized by model name. You can change this path any time from Settings → Directory.

The Review tab inside CaptureGem shows all your saved recordings in one place. From there you can play them, trim the start and end points, add searchable tags, or edit the metadata.

Watching Multiple CamSoda Rooms
Need to record more than one CamSoda room at the same time? Start a second recording from the Record tab — just change the username and hit Start again. The Monitor tab displays live thumbnail previews for every active session so you can see what each room is doing at a glance.

Note: Free tier users have a cap on simultaneous recordings. If you regularly record multiple rooms in parallel, CaptureGem Premium removes this limitation.
Auto-Recording Favourites
If you don't want to manually start recordings every time a particular CamSoda model comes online, the Premium auto-recording feature is worth considering. Add the model's username to your favourites list, and CaptureGem polls their status in the background. The moment they go live, recording starts — no action required on your part.

Troubleshooting
CaptureGem says the model isn't streaming
Verify the username spelling against the CamSoda website. If the model is definitely live but the error persists, try clicking Start again after a 10-second wait — status lookups occasionally have a brief delay.

Recording is shorter than the actual stream
CamSoda occasionally rotates stream keys during long broadcasts. When this happens, CaptureGem may briefly lose the connection and re-establish it, creating a new file segment. Check your output folder for multiple partial files that can be merged together if needed.
