5 AI Tools That Actually Saved Me 20+ Hours This Week

Let’s be honest for a second: most AI hype feels like snake oil. Everywhere you look, someone is promising that a new tool will completely revolutionize your life overnight.

I was skeptical too. But over the last month, I decided to run an experiment. Instead of using AI as a gimmick, I tried integrating it into my actual daily workflow to see if it could tackle the repetitive, soul-crushing tasks that drain my energy.

Turns out, a few tools are actually worth the noise. Here are the 5 AI tools that saved me over 20 hours this week—and how I actually use them.

1. Claude 3.5 Sonnet (My Thinking Partner)

If you've only used ChatGPT, you're missing out. Claude 3.5 Sonnet feels much less like a robotic text generator and more like a smart colleague you bounce ideas off of.

  • Best for: Writing, complex logic, and code refactoring.
  • How I saved 5 hours: Instead of staring at a blank screen trying to draft documentation or structure complex code, I talk through my logic with Claude. Its tone is shockingly natural, meaning I spend way less time editing the output.

2. Perplexity AI (Ad-Free, Direct Research)

Googling anything these days means wading through sponsored ads, pop-ups, and 2,000-word SEO blog posts just to find a single line of code or a quick answer.

  • Best for: Fast, accurate technical research with real sources.
  • How I saved 6 hours: Perplexity skips the SEO clutter. It searches the web in real-time, synthesizes the answer, and gives me inline citations so I can double-check the source immediately.

3. Notion AI (Taming My Brain Dump)

My notes used to be a graveyard of random thoughts, quick code snippets, and half-finished meeting summaries scattered across dozens of files.

  • Best for: Organizing unstructured notes and tracking action items.
  • How I saved 4 hours: After a long brain-dumping session or team discussion, I highlight my chaotic notes and let Notion AI extract the actionable tasks and organize them into clear checklists.

4. Gamma App (Slide Decks Without the Pain)

Designing pitch decks or internal technical presentations from scratch is my least favorite task. Formatting boxes in PowerPoint for three hours is a terrible use of time.

  • Best for: Instant slide decks and document layouts.
  • How I saved 3 hours: I paste a rough text outline into Gamma, and it automatically formats a visually clean presentation deck. I just tweak the copy and it’s good to go.

5. Otter.ai (Focusing on Meetings, Not Note-Taking)

Trying to actively participate in a technical discussion while frantically taking notes usually means doing a mediocre job at both.

  • Best for: Real-time transcription and summary.
  • How I saved 3 hours: Otter sits in on my calls, records key decisions, and emails me a summary with clear follow-ups right after.

The Reality Check

AI isn't going to do your job for you, nor should it.

The goal isn't to automate everything—it's to eliminate the micro-friction points in your daily routine. Pick just one bottleneck in your day, test a tool for a week, and see if it gives you your time back.
