@sloan @DEV This flag requires a public response. David joined DEV as early as 2017. In a deeply personal story, he described his battle with brain cancer and the experience of learning how to walk and speak all over again. The automatic AI detection tool flagged him falsely as a result of pure human vulnerability, and to add insult to injury, there is evidence in this same thread showing that David might have been flagged incorrectly because someone else accidentally used Sloan while writing about a different topic. That's precisely why AI content moderation can be dangerous.
Hey @johnohhh1. This message was suppose to be someone in the comments of this post due to the comment being AI generated. However, it is send as a separate message instead of replying as a thread, which was not anticipated. The comment that was AI generated is now deleted in the comment section, though the Sloan post is still visible for everyone to see without context. This has been resolved between the owner of the post, @hubedav, and me and clarification was made in this same comment section of his post and that Sloan message has nothing to do with the post at all.
Hope this clears things up and no, that Sloan message was not automated. I was the one who sent it as a Sloan Moderator, but the intention was to send as a comment thread of someone's comment being AI generated and not the post itself.
Yeah sorry I was a little sleep deprived and I read the post and was really moved and then I saw sloan and thought it was flagging te author and I was like thats rude. But thats on me. I will seek to understand better next time
That's okay and I understand your situation! No worries it was also on me since I thought Sloan will reply to the comment thread instead of being a separate comment. Learn something new for both of us lol
