Which version should I work from? Practise checking a shared reference

Two copies of a planning document arrive in a fictional team chat. One is attached to an older message; the other is a shared draft. Before adding your changes, ask:

"Which version should I work from?"

"Work from" means use something as your starting point or reference. The question asks your colleague to identify that reference. It does not also ask whether you may edit the document.

Try this exchange:

You: Which version should I work from?
Colleague: Use the shared draft marked Review B.
You: Should I leave comments or edit it directly?
Colleague: Comments only for now.

Your next line could be: "I'll add comments to Review B and leave the text unchanged." Say the version label aloud so your partner can correct it.

Now change the colleague's first answer:

"I'm not sure which copy is current."

Instead of choosing the newer-looking filename, ask, "Who can confirm the current version?" In this practice round, wait for that confirmation before describing an editing plan.

For a two-person drill, label two blank sheets Review A and Review B. The colleague chooses one sheet and an action: comment or edit. The learner must ask both questions, then repeat the agreed version and action. Swap roles and change the answer. No real project files, customer details or chat messages are needed.
