how to deal with unclear requirements

Today I had a ticket with unclear goals and unclear requirements.
I heard that others worked on this tickets before and could not understand what was the point of the ticket.
There was also a meeting that got cancelled because it did not get anywhere.
The person creating the ticket was also in this meeting.
I also spoke to this person at first but did not understand what the person wanted.
When the ticket got to me and I had to work on it, I felt lost.
I asked another person who was there longer than the creator of the ticket and me.
I got an answer and now know about the constraints and the background to this ticket.
But it kinda felt like going behind the back of the ticket creator.
I wanted to talk directly to the creator but that person was not available anymore today.
I hope I can resolve this ticket tomorrow and get this issue fixed.
In the future I want to try to talk more directly to the creators of the tickets.
