Augmented Reality Trends for 2023

As we move into 2023, let’s dive into some trends in augmented reality. There are few people in the world left for whom this is a new term. For those who still are not quite clear about what augmented reality is, I will keep it short and sweet.
Augmented reality (AR) is a technology to transfer computer-generated images, sounds, and other virtual elements onto the real world. Today augmented reality app development has become so fashionable that any developer with some imagination can do it.
An example of AR is the IKEA Place app which allows users to virtually place furniture in their homes before making a purchase. Seems cool? The app uses the camera on a smartphone to picture the room. Then users can choose furniture from IKEA’s catalog and place them in the virtual place.
Now that you know how super cool augmented reality is, let’s see some of the trends to expect in 2023.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an increasingly important trend in augmented reality. Why? Because with AI capabilities, AR can enhance its scope without limit. AI can make intelligent decisions about how to augment the real world. With cross-platform app development, today you can use an AI app on virtually any device.
For example, AI can help with object recognition. AI can track objects in real time and help to overlay virtual information on top of these objects. For example, an AR app can recognize and display information about a car. It’s amazing that AI can decide on the fuel efficiency and safety features of the car.
By combining AI and AR, developers can create more sophisticated AR experiences. With the current rate of AI development, we can expect fast and innovative solutions in AR.

Step into the Metaverse

The term Metaverse comes from science fiction literature. It refers to a collective virtual shared space where physical and virtual reality merge. It opens space to a wide range of immersive experiences. In the Metaverse, users can experience AR in a completely astonishing way. For example, they can use smart glasses or headsets. The users can interact with virtual realities as if they were real.
Metaverse has direct implications for Augmented Reality technology. For example, as the Metaverse gains popularity, the demand for AR-enabled devices goes up. It also allows for greater privacy and security by preventing unauthorized access.
The Metaverse opens ways for new opportunities for businesses to monetize AR technology such as virtual goods and services.
And finally, Metaverse allows the creation of immersive experiences that can be accessed by millions of people at the same time.

Live stream shopping

With the rise of augmented reality technology, live-stream shopping allows customers to engage in a more immersive experience. AR technologies allow the creation of an environment where customers feel like in a physical shop. And it does more than that. For example, a beauty shop may conduct a virtual event where customers can try on makeup products during a live-stream shopping event.
With the opportunities provided by AR technology, I would say that customers engage in a more personalized experience than traditional e-commerce. This directly affects customer loyalty and sales.
Another advantage is that decisions are more knowledge-based. Customers can make better shopping decisions by seeing products in a more realistic context. In effect, the percentage of unsatisfied customers is lower as customers make a better sense of how the products look or work in their real lives.
In short, by providing a more immersive and interactive experience, Augmented reality together with live-stream shopping offers a unique and exciting way for customers to engage with brands and products.

Web AR

It seems that Web AR is the next big trend of Augmented Reality, Web AR allows one to experience augmented reality through a web browser. This means that users don’t need to download and install an app. Web AR can be accessed from any device, including smartphones, tablets, and desktop computers. This age of the mobile industry expands the opportunities of AR technology.
Businesses can also share their experiences with a wider audience as it takes only a web link to access the content. They can also update and modify AR experiences on the fly which means they can modify AR experiences based on user feedback or add new features and functionality.
By applying Web AR options, a number of industries are boosted like e-commerce and education. For example, educators can provide students with interactive experiences and make learning more enjoyable.

AR glasses

AR glasses are one of the most exciting recent developments in the field of augmented reality. AR glasses are wearable devices that allow users to read digital information overlaid in the real world. They work pretty simply. Cameras and sensors track the user’s movements and project digital images on the lenses of the glasses. This means that if any information is not in the real world but is projected on the lenses will be interpreted as part of the real world.
AR glasses can be applied in a number of industries such as medicine or construction. They are particularly useful because users don’t have to hold them but carry them on their eyes which leaves the users’ hands free. For example, this may be helpful during work on an assembly line or during surgeries.
AR glasses can also be applied in the best way in education. For example, they can be used to simulate historical events, provide science experiments or create virtual field trips.

Wrapping up

I have talked about several trends in Augmented Reality such as Artificial intelligence, Metaverse, Live stream shopping, Web AR, and AR glasses. However, the capacities of Augmented Reality are much wider. AR penetrated almost any sector of our life. Very soon we will see a reality where the real and the virtual are submerged. This seems like from the realm of fantasy. However, lots of AR elements are already there – in our lives. AR has the potential to transform the way we learn and interact with the world around us. Therefore, its importance cannot be underestimated as AR is poised to become an increasingly important technology in the years to come.
