Automating Entry Summary Declarations to Northern Ireland

Where automation pays back

ENS is high-volume, structured, and repeatable. That makes it ideal for automation across four layers: data capture, validation, submission, and response handling.

Layer 1: Data capture

Pull consignor, consignee, goods, and transport data directly from the TMS or ERP. Avoid manual re-keying, which is the source of most description and EORI errors. See the pre-entry safety declarations NI reference for the field set.

Layer 2: Validation

Auto-validate:

  • XI EORI presence
  • Description against approved library
  • Consignor/consignee identifiers
  • Routing completeness Reject bad data before submission, not after.

Layer 3: Submission

Submit to ICS2 automatically once validation passes. Store the Movement Reference against the booking.

Layer 4: Response handling

Route ICS2 rejections to the operations team, not a general customs inbox.

Where humans stay in the loop

Controlled and SPS goods still need manual review. Description standards matter more than raw throughput on those lanes.
