What Automation Actually Solves in TSS Data Entry (and What It Does Not)

Automation for TSS is often sold as a whole-workflow solution. The honest picture is narrower and more useful.

What Automation Does Well

Missing fields. Format validation. Codes that do not exist in the tariff. Contradictory figures across weight and quantity fields. Absent required document codes at DE 2/3. Currency conversion mistakes. Duplicate records. Orphaned goods items with no parent consignment. These are mechanical checks with unambiguous right answers, and they scale linearly with volume.

Automation also removes the transcription work that generates most errors in the first place. Enter the product record once; every future declaration inherits it. Get the classification right once; the tariff freshness check catches the next annual change. See the automating TSS data entry primer for the mechanical vs judgment split.

What Automation Does Not Do

Description honesty. Preference claim substantiation. Goods risk classification. These remain human judgment. Any tool claiming to remove them is over-selling. The realistic model is automation handling the mechanical work, freeing human reviewers for the calls that need them.
