After finishing bootcamp I though I was ready to take the next steps in my software engineering journey.
๐ค But what are they?
Take a break
After achieving such a major accomplishment. I decided it was a good idea to take a break and give myself time to reflect on what was just accomplished and to strategize the next steps.
"Burnout is real it's important to take care of you and pace yourself"
Choosing a path
After taking a break I had to answer some questions to help me find the road I was going to travel next ๐คท๐ฟ.
Here are the questions I asked:
- Decided what kind of developer I want to be?
- What kind of roles am I interested in?
- What skills do I need to work on to take the next steps.
"The person who fails to plan, plans to fail"
Getting back in the groove
After taking a break it was time to get back in the chair and code ๐จ๐ฟโ๐ป.
It was important to establish a routine to help keep structure and balance.
One of the big things I focused on was refreshing my memory in Ruby since I haven't really used it exclusively in a while and brushing up on my JavaScript.
Things I did to practice:
- Review labs I worked on to see if I could find a different solution.
- Rewatch lectures and code along.
- Add stretch goals to my projects.
"Growth is a process"
One of the great things about software engineering is that there is always room to grow. We have only just begun the journey and scratched the surface of what can be accomplished.
"Never be afraid to grow pass what you think your limits are"
These were my steps in choosing the road code travels. Hopefully this helps you find your road and gives you a blueprint to model your next steps in your coding journey.
Good Luck and Happy Coding ๐จ๐ฟโ๐ป๐ง๐พโ๐ป๐ฉโ๐ป๐จ๐ปโ๐ป
