Spec-Driven Development & AI: Takeaways from AWS Women in Cloud Meetup

Recently, I had the chance to attend an awesome AWS Women in Cloud meetup hosted at the MODO headquarters in Buenos Aires.

It was a great mix of technical debates, hands-on coding, and networking. Here is a quick recap of the key concepts discussed and resources shared during the event.

🧠 Key Highlights

1. CS Fundamentals vs. AI Era

We kicked off with a debate on why understanding computer science fundamentals is more critical now than ever. AI tools can write code fast, but without strong foundations, debugging and scaling complex architectures become a nightmare.

2. Spec-Driven Development (SDD)

Florencia Olivera and the tech team shared insights on Spec-Driven Development. Instead of jumping straight into coding, SDD focuses on defining clear, precise specifications first-allowing both humans and AI coding assistants to collaborate seamlessly with fewer hallucinations.

3. Hands-on Workshop: Kiro & AWS

We wrapped up the event with a workshop led by Daiana Rodriguez, where we built a game using Kiro (an AI-assisted development tool) backed by AWS cloud services.

🛠️ Workshop Resources

If you want to practice and test the implementation yourself, here are the official workshop materials:

⚠️ Note: The temporary AWS sandbox access code is active for 48 hours only, but the step-by-step guide remains available for reference.

🚀 Conclusion

Huge thanks to Daiana Rodriguez, MODO, and AWS Women in Cloud BA for organizing such an enriching session.

Have you tried Spec-Driven Development or AI-assisted game development yet? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
