Whimsy is an incredible tool for handcrafted RPGs with loads of personality.

I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone entering the game development field or simply looking for an accessible environment to create a simple and charming narrative experience.

As of now, quite a few features are missing, but a lot of what's there feels very well polished.

Overall, I would rate it a pleasant 8/10, provided you have an appreciation for a neo-retro aesthetic and mood.

I've been dabbling in game development and I'm interested in creating interactive pixel experiences. Sounds like this is right up my alley, I'll check it out, thanks.

Really love how you approached node-based programming for story games! Which feature are you personally most proud of so far?

idk? I had design drafts and they all got fleshed out as expected. But once I upgrade the scenario editor to work with logical and other values, this will be what I'm proud of for sure.

Most of the tools for it appear to be MIT licensed. Is this the case with Whimsy itself? Is their a public repository?

No, sorry, can't do OSS. With Whimsy, from the very beginning, I wanted to make a quality product I can earn some money from with the freemium model. My previous major opensource project never worked out in monetization space despite the efforts, so I would rather make Whimsy a proprietary product. At least, for the foreseeable future.
Btw I plan nothing predatory in terms of feature difference, in case you are afraid of that, and you can find the distribution strategy with the roadmap on Whimsy's itch.io page.
