MyZubster Permaculture: From Visual References to an Ecological Evidence Graph
Today MyZubster gained a new section that is much more important than a simple image gallery.
We added a structured Permaculture layer to the ecosystem.
The goal is not just to collect photos about agriculture, biodiversity, soil, guilds, orchards or circular economy.
The goal is to give every visual asset a meaning inside the MyZubster architecture.
That changes everything.
Why this matters
A picture can be many things.
It can be:
- a real project evidence,
- a field observation,
- an educational reference,
- a design concept,
- or an external case study.
If we mix all of these together, the visual repository becomes confusing.
So we introduced a clear classification system:

OBSERVATION
A real-world observation relevant to MyZubster, but not necessarily proof of an intervention by the project.

A proposed workflow, design, future state or visual interpretation.
This is now a core rule:
A reference image is not project evidence unless separate provenance proves where, when and by whom the documented activity happened.
That distinction is essential for keeping the public history of the project accurate.
The new Permaculture catalog
The new visual batch was divided into functional ecological sectors.
Permaculture Design
Assets in this area represent the overall logic of integrated ecological design.
Examples include:

These visuals help define how MyZubster can think about garden nodes as ecological systems instead of isolated objects.
Plant Guilds and Polyculture
This sector focuses on relationships between species.

These assets are useful because MyZubster is not only interested in mapping plants.
It can also evolve toward documenting relationships between plants.

This kind of image can be useful as an external practice reference, but it should not automatically be interpreted as something done by MyZubster.
This is exactly why the REFERENCE class exists.
Agroforestry and Biodiversity
The catalog also includes:

This is useful as a visual reference for:
forest gardens,
vegetation layers,
perennial systems,
biodiversity,
long-lived polycultures.
This fits naturally into the broader MyZubster vision.
A garden node could one day contain not only isolated species records, but also ecological structure.

We also catalog external case-study material such as:

This type of asset must remain clearly separated from MyZubster project evidence.
It is useful as a comparative reference.
It is not proof of a MyZubster pilot, partnership or institutional relationship.

This makes the repository easier to verify, easier to extend and harder to misunderstand.
It also allows future tooling to process the assets automatically.
Duplicate detection
During the catalog process we also found exact duplicate images.
Instead of storing duplicate files in the canonical tree, the project now keeps one canonical asset and preserves duplicate provenance in metadata.
This is a small technical detail, but it is part of the same philosophy:
Keep the evidence graph clean.
Why Permaculture fits MyZubster
Permaculture is useful here because it is based on relationships.
MyZubster is increasingly moving in the same direction.
Not just:

The next steps for this section are:
import the unique visual assets into the canonical repository tree,
connect catalog metadata to each file,
create garden-node examples,
define observation schemas,
add soil and biodiversity fields,
connect environmental observations to MRV workflows,
distinguish real field evidence from educational references,
and eventually connect validated observations to the wider MyZubster evidence system.
Final thought
The important part of this update is not that MyZubster now has a Permaculture folder.
The important part is that ecological visuals are becoming part of a structured model.
