From Bitcoin-Era Privacy to Verifiable Digital Trust
My name is Daniel Ioni, and MyZubster did not begin with a blank page.
Some of the ideas behind the project come from a much older technical history — a period when I was already experimenting with Bitcoin, wallets, privacy-oriented technologies and online technical communities.
More than ten years later, I decided to revisit that history in a different way.
Not to turn it into a legend.
To turn it into evidence.
A technical history from 2014–2015
While reconstructing old material, I recovered historical communications related to the Darkode period and a 2015 Blockchain.info Bitcoin notification.
I then started reconstructing the associated Bitcoin activity directly from the public blockchain.
The result was much larger than a single transaction or an old wallet email.
For the historical Bitcoin address under analysis, the reconstruction identified:
- 483 confirmed transactions
- 192 externally funded deposits
- 287 self/change transactions
- 4 outgoing transactions without return to the same address
- approximately 219.93104055 BTC received through externally funded transactions
There were also recurring counterparties, consolidations, fan-out structures, multi-input/multi-output transactions and long redistribution chains.
That does not mean I earned 219 BTC.
It does not mean every BTC visible in an upstream transaction belonged to me.
And it does not prove, by itself, what every transaction was used for.
That distinction became one of the most important parts of the investigation.
Evidence is more interesting than mythology
When people reconstruct their technical history, there is a temptation to make the story stronger than the evidence.
I wanted to do the opposite.
My repository now explicitly separates information into categories such as:
Verified / on-chain
Facts reproducible from the blockchain or preserved evidence.
Evidence-supported
Claims supported by several consistent pieces of evidence, without pretending they are cryptographic proof of identity.
Self-reported
Historical memories or claims for which I do not currently have sufficient independent evidence.
For example, the current archive supports substantial Bitcoin activity during the same historical period as the Darkode-related communications.
But it does not automatically prove:
- a specific Darkode username
- what I did on the forum
- operation of a Bitcoin mixing service
- mining-pool provenance for the BTC
- current control of the historical wallet
- illegal activity
- professional expertise simply because an address moved a large amount of Bitcoin
Some elements of my own recollection — including the use of Electrum, historical privacy infrastructure, mining-related activity and later movement toward Monero — remain explicitly separated as self-reported history until stronger contemporary evidence is recovered.
For me, this distinction matters more than making the story sound impressive.
Why this matters for MyZubster
This investigation made me notice something interesting.
There is a direct philosophical progression between the technologies I was interested in then and what I am building now:
Historical cybersecurity / Bitcoin provenance
↓
Privacy technologies
↓
Verifiable provenance & digital trust
↓
MyZubster
In the earlier Internet, privacy often meant reducing the amount of information that could be connected to you.
Today I am equally interested in the opposite problem:
How can someone reveal only the evidence necessary to establish a claim — without exposing everything else?
That question is increasingly central to MyZubster.
Privacy and verification are not opposites
A common mistake is to think that verification requires exposing more personal information.
I don't think it does.
A better architecture can allow someone to prove:
- that an artifact existed
- that a contribution was made
- that a document has not changed
- that a wallet or key was controlled at a particular moment
- that an observation satisfies defined criteria
without publishing unnecessary private information.
This is why the historical archive uses techniques such as SHA-256 commitments for sensitive Bitcoin identifiers rather than publishing every wallet address and private data point.
The public repository can preserve provenance.
The sensitive evidence can remain private.
And a future verifier can still test whether the private evidence corresponds to the public commitment.
That is much closer to the kind of digital trust infrastructure I want MyZubster to explore.
From anonymity to selective proof
My technical interests have changed over time, but there is a continuous thread.
At one point the interesting question was:
How can systems preserve privacy?
Today another question is just as important:
How can systems establish trust without destroying privacy?
MyZubster is increasingly becoming an experiment around that second question.
Real-world observations.
Evidence.
Content-addressed data.
Public-safe archives.
Contributor verification.
Identity foundations.
Privacy-aware workflows.
And explicit boundaries between what is claimed, what is supported, and what is actually verified.
Your past should not become your credential automatically
There is another principle I want to preserve.
An old forum membership is not a professional certification.
A Bitcoin wallet is not proof of expertise.
A GitHub username is not proof of civil identity.
A repository path is not proof of authorship.
And a story repeated enough times does not become evidence.
If MyZubster is going to work with digital identity and reputation, I want those distinctions built into the system itself.
The goal should not be:
"Trust me because of my story."
It should become:
"Here is the claim. Here is the evidence. Here is what can independently be verified. Here is what remains unknown."
That is a very different model of online reputation.
Making my own history the first test case
In a sense, I am using my own technical history as an early MyZubster experiment.
Can an old digital history be reconstructed responsibly?
Can public blockchain records be combined with archived communications?
Can sensitive identifiers remain private?
Can we distinguish memory from evidence?
Can a public profile express uncertainty instead of hiding it?
Can provenance survive for ten or twenty years?
Those questions are much more interesting to me than simply publishing an old screenshot.
MyZubster is about the transition
The Darkode-era material is not the identity of MyZubster.
It is one historical chapter.
What makes it relevant is the transition:
from privacy and anonymous systems toward privacy-aware, evidence-driven digital trust.
The Internet already contains enormous amounts of information about people.
What it often lacks is a reliable way of answering:
- Where did this claim come from?
- What evidence supports it?
- Who verified it?
- Has the evidence changed?
- What remains uncertain?
- How much personal information actually needs to be exposed?
Those are questions I want MyZubster to help explore.
And strangely enough, reconstructing a Bitcoin history from 2014–2015 has made the purpose of the project clearer to me than before.

The evidence package is intentionally conservative: unsupported historical claims remain labeled as such.
That is not a limitation of the story.
It is the point.
