Why Facebook’s Metaverse Isn’t the Endgame — The Digital Era Has Already Begun
For years, the idea of the metaverse has been presented as something that a large corporation could build, launch, and eventually convince the world to enter.
But I believe that idea starts from the wrong assumption.
The digital era is not waiting to be launched. It has already begun.
People build open-source software together. Communities organize globally. AI agents interact with digital infrastructure. Physical objects can generate data. Digital identity, immersive environments, decentralized protocols and privacy technologies are increasingly interconnected.
The question is therefore no longer:
“Who will build the metaverse?”
The better question is:
“Who will control the infrastructure of our digital lives?”
Meta's model and the MyZubster model
Meta has enormous engineering resources and has contributed important technologies to the broader ecosystem.
But a corporate metaverse naturally revolves around infrastructure operated and governed by a company.
MyZubster is experimenting with a different direction.
Instead of trying to create one virtual universe that everyone must enter, MyZubster is being developed as an open ecosystem connecting different layers:
open-source development
AI and autonomous agents
IoT and real-world infrastructure
immersive/WebXR environments
environmental projects
community participation
privacy-oriented technologies
interoperability with external ecosystems

The distinction matters.
MyZubster doesn't need to “defeat Facebook.”
It needs to demonstrate that the next digital infrastructure can be built differently.
Fork. Build. Contribute. Connect.
Our development philosophy is increasingly simple:
Study → Fork → Understand → Build → Test → Contribute → Interoperate
Rather than isolating ourselves, we study and contribute to existing open-source ecosystems.
That means the network can grow through collaboration rather than through ownership of every component.
A successful contribution upstream is more valuable to this vision than creating another closed copy of something that already exists.
The physical world matters
Another difference is that our vision doesn't end with VR headsets.
The next digital era will connect physical and digital systems.
Water management.
Urban gardens.
Environmental sensors.
Robotics.
Cities.
Digital twins.
AI agents.
Immersive spaces.
Open data.
Human communities.
This is where the concept behind MyZubster LIFE 2027 becomes important.
The objective isn't simply to create another place where people can have avatars.
It is to explore infrastructure where digital technology can interact with real communities and real environments.
No single company owns the digital era
Facebook can build a metaverse.
Apple can build spatial-computing platforms.
Open-source communities can build protocols.
Independent developers can build worlds.
AI systems can build interfaces between them.
These things can exist simultaneously.
That's precisely why I don't believe the future belongs to one corporate metaverse.
The Internet became powerful because nobody had to ask one company for permission to build a website.
The next digital layer should preserve that principle.
Open protocols. Open development. Interoperability. Community participation.
MyZubster is still an evolving experimental ecosystem. There is a great deal left to build, test and validate.
But the direction is clear.
We are not waiting for someone to announce the beginning of the digital future.
We are already living through its construction.
And this time, developers and communities have the opportunity to help decide how it works.
