Password Reuse Is Your Biggest Risk

Many people use the same password for multiple accounts because it is easier to remember. However, this habit is one of the biggest online security risks today.

If one website gets hacked and your password is leaked, hackers often try the same password on your email, social media, banking apps, shopping accounts, and work accounts. This is called password reuse, and it can lead to multiple accounts being compromised very quickly.

For example, if you use the same password for your email and your online shopping account, a hacker who gets access to one account may also be able to access the other. Since email accounts are connected to password reset options for many services, losing access to your email can become a serious problem.

Hackers use automated tools that can test stolen usernames and passwords on many websites within seconds. Even if your password seems strong, reusing it makes it much less secure.

The best way to stay safe is to use a different password for every important account. Your email, banking apps, social media, and work-related accounts should all have unique passwords. It is also a good idea to use a password manager so you do not have to remember every password yourself.

Two-factor authentication can provide extra protection as well. Even if someone gets your password, they still need a second code to access your account.
