Hello, World. I’m Starting to Share the Journey.
I've spent a lot of time learning things quietly.
Writing code.
Breaking code.
Starting projects.
Abandoning some.
Coming back to others.
Having ideas I thought were brilliant at 2 a.m. and questionable by morning. 😭
And for a long time, most of that stayed in my head.
I think it's time to change that.
So, hello, World.
This is the beginning of a journal.
Not a journal in the traditional sense, but a public record of things I'm building, learning, exploring, and thinking about.
Some of it will be about technology.
Some of it will be about building a business.
Some of it will be about writing.
Some of it will probably make absolutely no sense to anyone except me.
And that's okay.
I don't have everything figured out
That's probably the first thing worth saying.
I'm still learning.
I'm still making mistakes.
I'm still Googling things that I feel like I should already know.
I'm still staring at code wondering why something isn't working, only to discover that I forgot a semicolon, used the wrong variable, or spent two hours solving a problem I created myself.
That's part of the journey.
I recently finished The Odin Project Foundations, something that took me much longer than I originally expected.
I started, stopped, came back, struggled, learned, got confused, figured things out, and eventually finished.
Finishing it didn't suddenly make me a great developer.
It simply showed me that I could keep going.
And now there are many more things ahead.
JavaScript.
React.
Backend development.
Cloud.
Real projects.
Real users.
And eventually, real clients.
Building Deolawage
One of the things I'm currently exploring is turning Deolawage into something more than just a name I use online.
I want it to become a website-creation brand.
The idea is simple:
Build useful websites for real businesses.
I'm particularly interested in working with small businesses and eventually serving clients.
That means I have a lot to figure out.
What should I offer?
Who exactly should I serve?
How should I price my work?
How do I find clients?
How do I communicate with them?
How do I turn a website from something that looks nice into something that actually helps a business?
I don't have all the answers yet.
That's partly why I want to document it.
Why share all of this?
Because I've realised that learning doesn't only happen when you reach the finish line.
Sometimes the most interesting part is everything that happens before it.
The confusion.
The failed attempts.
The small breakthrough.
The project that finally works.
The idea that doesn't.
The lesson you didn't expect to learn.
I want to keep a record of those things.
Maybe someone else will find something useful in them.
Maybe someone will relate to the struggle.
Maybe, years from now, I'll look back at these posts and realise how much I've changed.
That alone makes documenting the journey worthwhile.
This is not a success story
Not yet, anyway.
I'm not writing this from the other side.
I'm writing it from the middle.
I'm still figuring things out.
I'm still building.
I'm still learning.
And honestly, I think that's where the interesting part is.
So this isn't:
“Look at everything I've achieved.”
It's more like:
“Come see what happens next.”
I'll share the projects I build.
The things I learn.
The mistakes I make.
The ideas I'm exploring.
The lessons I pick up along the way.
And occasionally, whatever random thought happens to escape this tiny brain of mine.
