Hey everyone!
I'm excited to share my first app project from Design Rivers Studios: Torchly, a modern flashlight app for Android.
The idea started with a pretty simple question:
Why does a flashlight app need to be complicated?
A flashlight should be fast, reliable, and easy to use. So I set out to build something focused on exactly that.
Torchly is also the beginning of something bigger for me: Design Rivers Studios.
I'm building Design Rivers Studios as an independent software studio focused on creating useful, thoughtfully designed applications.
Torchly is my first release, but definitely not my last.
One of the things I'm enjoying most about this process is seeing an idea go from:
Idea → Design → Development → Testing → Launch
There's a lot that happens behind the scenes that you don't see in the final app — from designing the interface and testing different devices to preparing store listings and getting real users to test the application.
I'm currently working through the Android/Google Play testing process and getting Torchly ready for its public release.
I'm planning to continue improving Torchly while working on additional projects through Design Rivers Studios.
I'll be sharing some of that process here — including development lessons, design decisions, challenges, and hopefully a few things that can help other indie developers along the way.
