AWS announces Amazon Aurora supports PostgreSQL 12. The open-source object-relational database system utilizes and extends the SQL language. The new version allows better partitioning features, execution of JSON path queries per SQL/ JSON requirements, and improved index management. Additional to the support, now users can also upgrade their Amazon Aurora database cluster from the PostgreSQL version 11 to 12. Instead of having to backup and restore to the latest version, end-users can upgrade via few clicks through Amazon RDS Management Console or CLI or the AWS SDK. [INFOQ]

The Rust programming language finds a new home in a nonprofit foundation. Browser ‘favicons’ can be used as undeletable ‘supercookies’ to track you online. “Supercookie uses favicons to assign a unique identifier to website visitors. Unlike traditional tracking methods, this ID can be stored almost persistently and cannot be easily cleared by the user,” software designer Jonas Strehle said on his Github. “The tracking method works even in the browser's incognito mode and is not cleared by flushing the cache, closing the browser or restarting the system, using a VPN or installing AdBlockers.
