Most modern workflow automation platforms like n8n or Activepieces assume you have Docker and several gigabytes of idle RAM to spare. While they are great tools, spinning up heavy multi-container stacks just to run a few webhooks, API transformations, and scheduled cron jobs on low-tier VPS setups or shared hosting environments is often complete overkill.
To solve this, I built FlowForgeβan open-source, lightweight workflow automation engine powered natively by Laravel and a visual React node canvas.
β‘ Why FlowForge?
- Resource Friendly: Runs cleanly on low-memory servers (512MBβ1GB RAM) without requiring heavy container runtimes.
- PHP Ecosystem Native: Seamlessly integrates with Laravel's queue workers, scheduler, and database architecture.
- Visual Canvas: Built with React for intuitive node-based trigger-and-action chaining.
- Extensible Architecture: Modular action/trigger design so developers can write custom integrations easily.
π οΈ Getting Started & Source Code
The project is completely open source under the MIT license. You can check out the source code, inspect the execution engine, and try it out locally:

π¬ Looking for Community Feedback
This is an early release and actively evolving. I'd love feedback from the community:
- What third-party connectors/APIs (Slack, Discord, Google Sheets, Stripe, etc.) would you like to see first?
- What are your thoughts on the workflow execution model?
Feel free to open issues, submit PRs, or leave your thoughts in the comments below!
