In addition to all the posts and discussions he started and engaged with, I want to add that Richard also played a big behind-the-scenes role as a moderator on DEV.
I didn’t know he was a moderator behind the scenes. That makes his contributions even more impressive.
Richard always encouraged me in many ways, he was a very supportive person as well and I loved reading his articles , it’s quite sad to see him go but I’m assuming it’s for personal reasons. Whenever he is ready to come back I will be here to read more of his articles for sure!
I feel the same way. Richard’s encouragement meant a lot, and his articles always had something thoughtful in them. It’s sad to see him step away, but I respect that he’s doing what’s right for him. Whenever he decides to come back, I’ll be looking forward to reading more of his work too.

Richard truly had a big impact on me during my early days here. I learned a lot just by observing how he interacted with people, always thoughtful, always encouraging, and always adding something meaningful to the conversation.
He showed me that being part of a community isn’t just about posting your own work, but about showing up for others too. A lot of my own approach to engaging here was influenced by watching him do that so consistently.
I have a lot of respect for his decision to step away and focus on what matters most in his life. That kind of self-awareness takes strength.
I do hope he’s doing well, and if he ever decides to return one day, I know the community would welcome him back warmly. His presence made this place better.

You put this into words so well. Richard had the same impact on me — the way he showed up for people here really set the tone for what this community can be. I respect his choice to step back too, and I hope he’s doing alright. If he ever returns, I think a lot of us would be glad to see him again.

I just started following him a few days ago and he was very supportive and kind. Hope, he does make a comeback on DEV after a short break. His words were full of love, enthusiasm and inspiration.
I felt the same. Even in the short time he was here, he always showed up with kindness and real encouragement. I hope he gets the rest he needs and comes back when it feels right for him.
I’m really sad that Richard Pascoe left the DEV Community. 😭😭😭 He played such an important role and always left kind, encouraging words for everyone. I hope he can slow down and rest well. Looking forward to seeing him again someday.
