We're always working to improve how we run DEV Challenges, and we have an update to share on the judging front.
Welcoming MLH Coaches to the Panel
Now that DEV has joined forces with Major League Hacking (MLH), we're bringing in the MLH Coaches to evaluate challenge submissions. MLH Coaches bring deep, hands-on expertise from judging hundreds of in-person and digital hackathons. They know great technical work when they see it and bring a rigor and consistency to the process that we're really excited about.
This expands our judging panel, strengthens the technical expertise behind every review, and ensures more eyes are across every round of submissions.
A Note on the Volunteer Judge Program
We're temporarily pausing the volunteer judge program for the time being. The Coaches use a synchronous workflow for reviewing submissions, and it's difficult to integrate with the asynchronous flow our volunteer judges have used historically. We want to be thoughtful about how we layer these processes together.
To every community member who has served as a volunteer judge: thank you. Your time, thoughtfulness, and care for this community have meant a great deal to us. With the program on pause, your volunteer judge badge is now even more exclusive!
We'll keep everyone posted on how this all evolves.
Winners Announcement Delay
One more heads up: the winners announcement for the Weekend Challenge and the Google Gemini: Writing Challenge is being pushed to next Thursday (March 19).
We are still working through updating our judging processes. Itβs imperative to get this process right, so we can recognize the hard work each of you put into your submissions. Ultimately, our work integrating our Coaches will provide more consistent judging timelines moving forward.
As always, we appreciate you being part of this community and participating in our challenges. More to come soon! π
