From this list, the hemapriya piece is the one to send first to someone entering tech. It took longer than I would admit to see community as more than networking - the belonging came first and everything else followed.

I think I saw community as networking for a long time too, so it's been interesting reflecting on how much my perspective has changed over the years.

yeah the networking framing is almost a defense mechanism early on - safer to treat it as transactional than to actually need people. takes a few years to realize you are not gaming the system, you are just in it.
