Getting back my lost friend. ♥

We didn't interact for more than 6 months, she apologized and we are now on good terms again :)

This week I switched to yoga after a month of generic stretch exercises. I'm still very far from where I want be fitness wise--working from home made me a rusty robot--but it is good to get some mobility back. 😄

I completed a couple of milestones with respect to job searching. Next week I am getting ready to move, so it was nice to make some progress this week.

I also got news that my most recent conference talk (virtual) was the best attended non-keynote talk of the event. 🎉 That was awesome.

I started and shipped a new project in the last 3 days. It’s a Twitter bot that queries the Can I Use? database and responds to you with compatibility info, which can be good for use in discussion threads.

I had a quick chat with a recruiter at a big tech company. Nothing may come from it, but it feels like a career win to have someone talk me to "on the inside".

Not at all work related since I've been on vacation this week, but I finally finished watching all of Bleach (I've been working on it on and off for the past 6 months, glad I watched it but not likely to do so again), finally got around to watching The Mandalorian (far better than I expected given my views on most of the movies since the Disney acquisition, really looking forwards to the next season) and BNA (actually sad that the series is so short, which is rare for me), and finally got started watching Dragon Ball for the first time (and wow, blatantly obvious that it's from the late 80's just from the first 5 minutes of the first episode).

I started doing my taxes for 2019! :D

That and also a win from 2019, when I digged through my invoices.

I found out that I made 2/3 of all of my money with writing in 2019 and even 10% with the book I wrote in 2018.

My win this week was creating a tutorial for an app. But I don't mean the kind of tutorial that is written and posted as an article.

The client wanted one of two things, there was an option for an infomercial and a tutorial which runs on the app programmatically after somebody logs in.

They chose the programmatic tutorial. And I was more than happy to design and build one. It took roughly 2 days to complete and there were a few little changes here and there that they asked for.

As a result I feel good and they feel good.

Big win!

Been looking for a new job and I had a successful technical discussion over phone so I got to round three. Is a good thing as I was a bit tired yet could give rather sharp answers, and my previous tech interview didn't go well at all. Oh and the call was "unexpected" as I only knew roughly the time of day the call would come, but didn't know which day.

And I'll be massively unlucky if my current team member reads this post :D

Re-do the light theme to be a constant white, make all text input boxes use a consistent and legible accent color for box stroke.

💡 Motivation and Context

The box stroke for text input is currently gray, which is illegible on the dark theme. This PR fixes it up to match our accent color on both light and dark themes, improving legibility and bringing some consistency. The light theme has not had a change in literally years and I decided it was time for some dazzle.

This week I started a new project! Feeling quite motivated in these corona times surprisingly. Hope to make a lineup of tools for privacy that will make it easy and not just be used by tech savvy people. Unfortunately privacy is a thing people glance over. Hope I can contribute and change that :)

Finished work -- enough for initial release, anyway -- on a pet project of mine: A simple site that breaks down how many Americans have died from coronavirus relative to how many died on 9/11.

After learning the rudiments of html, css and javascript, i finally picked up React. It doesnt sound like much, but I am glad about my progress.

Surviving a horrible legacy code bug + the hotfix fixing the fix!! Eugh what a week...

I started noticing weight gains, I've been struggling with it for quite some time, I was having some health and mental issues and started taking it seriously, and for now, it's paid off, yay!

I randomly happened to come across a reminder from 2013 reminding me to start learning to code. Now 7 years later I am celebrating 6 months at a job I love as a Frontend Web Developer and I have a degree in Computer Science.
7 years ago I was depressed and was going through a really empty time in my life. I decided to start coding because I remembered, as a kid, enjoying to play around with an old html website builder I forgot the name of that would generate html for you (must have been end of 90s beginning of 2000s).
I never could have imagined how that decision would transform my life completely. I am not a great story teller, or else I would write my own article here about it. But This is something I would consider one of the biggest wins of my life.

Late last month I was promoted to Oracle ACE for community contributions and expertise with Oracle! It's very exciting and something I never imagined achieving. My wife even had celebratory cookies made!

I finally got back running again! Years and years ago I trained really hard for a half marathon but once it was I over I just kind of... Stopped running 😂

I've been doing lots of yoga during lockdown which I'm definitely keeping up, but it's nice to get back to a bit of outdoors cardio too. Suffice to say I am very far from being able to run a continuous 5km let alone a half marathon 🤣

This week I successfully migrated the codebase of a relatively small project written in Create React App to Next.js. Even though it was my first experience, I really learnt a lot about Next.js built-in router (it was the most challenging part for me), SSR, styling and whole bunch of other perks that I am still learning.

Nothing tech related, but having a three week vacation hiking around in northern Norway (which in itself already feels like a win, grateful to live somewhere this beautiful) and managed to get over my fear of heights entirely 💪 Doing hikes to mountain tops every day, exposure therapy seems very effective for me.

I am not used to writing blogs but this week I tried to do so. From 8th July I promised to post a blog each day for a week even if people don't read it. And I am pretty new in this platform too; just joined this month. So I had not much expectation besides posting.
To my surprise, within this short period of time, I got 2500+ views!!!!!! It's because of this article namely-simple guideline for webdesign

This week, I've started learning React having got some foundation in html, css and JavaScript.

It's been really exciting so far, but, I would be lying if I said it wasn't overwhelming.

One thing I'm really thankful to the DEV team is providing a platform to write blogs exclusive for developers. Since June I've written 15 articles and I'm super proud and happy to have met such an awesome community of folks who share the same level of passion.

It's pretty hard to feel like a 'winner' for us - in the current climate - if we aren't directly designing paths to a better world.

We mostly worked on a new marketing video this week. It's a pretty cute little dot - that is animated and explains our company. It will get us one step closer to offering scholarships to underrepresented communities - and that feels like a great step towards a possible future win. Also - we bought rollerblades - in what we didn't realize was a world-wide rollerblade shortage. So, there's two ends of the spectrum for you! : )

Been working on the front end for an account 2fa enable/disable function written in a mix of Angular, PHP, & C# which was released this week. Started it while lockdown started, so there was double the pressure due to looking after my kids at home as well.

I have been working on Landr from past couple of months. I have finished everything with respect to development and ready with the launch. I'll be launching it on product hunt soon.

Managed to work for 13.5h on my side-projects, while learning Vue and Vuetify! I'm building an app that will help me compare playlists between iTunes, Spotify and Rekordbox cause my libraries are a mess..!

I got a job! Job hunting process proved to be a huge stress for me, and I'm glad it's over. I'm so excited to start working!!

This week I start learning React, write 2 posts on dev.to, start new WordPress project and clean my house 😄😄 That's enough

Finishing my Bachelor!

Mine was syndicating a post on OpenTelemetry here from our corporate blog. I'm trying to get my company more active here, and this was a first step that was difficult to clear.

Was working on learning a bit of JS, finally starting to understand how promises work!

I got married! Wearing masks and gloves of course and with proper distance between others. It was us and our parents and the civil ceremony and it was great.

Rearranged the house so the kids could have separate rooms. I'm tired but they are happy 🙂
