The idea
I've always been curious about simple questions like:
- What if I invested $1000 in NVIDIA 10 years ago?
- What would monthly investing in the S&P 500 look like over time?
- How much would Bitcoin investments from early years be worth today?
There are many investment calculators online, but most of them rely on assumptions instead of real historical market data.
So I decided to build a tool that answers these questions using actual market history and real price data.
Introducing CalculatorInvest
CalculatorInvest is a web-based investment calculator that allows you to simulate how investments would have performed using real historical market data.
The platform helps investors and curious users explore the performance of different assets across multiple markets.
Supported asset classes include:
- Stocks
- Cryptocurrencies
- Forex pairs
- Market indexes
- Commodities
Instead of guessing future returns, the platform calculates results using real historical price data.
What you can do with it
CalculatorInvest provides several tools for exploring investment performance.
1. ROI investment calculator
Simulate a lump sum investment and see how it would grow over time.
Example:
The calculator shows:
- Total return
- ROI percentage
- Growth chart
- Historical price data
2. Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA)
You can also simulate monthly investing strategies.
For example:
- Investing $500 per month into the S&P 500
- Investing $100 monthly into Bitcoin
The tool calculates:
- Total invested capital
- Final portfolio value
- Average purchase price
- Investment growth over time
3. Asset comparison
Another feature allows users to compare how different assets performed over time.
For example:
- Bitcoin vs Gold
- NVIDIA vs S&P 500
- Tesla vs Nasdaq
This helps visualize how markets performed historically.
Why I built it
The goal was to create a tool that is:
- simple to use
- fast
- data-driven
- no account required
Many financial tools require subscriptions or complicated setups. I wanted something that anyone could open and instantly explore.
How it works (technical side)
The platform is built as a lightweight web application using:
- JavaScript
- JSON historical datasets
- HTML-based interactive interfaces
- client-side calculations
All calculations run directly in the browser, making the tool fast and accessible.
Example question you can answer instantly
The platform can answer questions like:
- What would $10,000 invested in NVIDIA in 2015 be worth today?
- What if you invested $500 monthly into the S&P 500?
- What would Bitcoin investments from early years look like today?
These simulations help users better understand long-term investing and compounding.
