Hello dev.to!

I'm Dan K.

I received my masters in EE from cal poly and took my first job as a software dev at a small startup in Sacramento. There I worked a lot with Python and SQL, as well as a little bit of AWS and UNIX administration. I pretty much got my feet wet with software development at that job until I moved to another, larger startup in SF. I now work mostly with Ruby on Rails and have focused my learning on OOD. I've also touched some JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, along with a tiny bit of Chef and AWS cli stuff.

As I continue down this path I find myself very interested in software design, specifically OOD, as well as UNIX proficiency (administration, security, and command line knowledge). I definitely want to become more well versed on the command line, as I believe it to be one of the more fundamental skills when working with computers. I've read quite a few books within the past year dealing with these topics and am always looking for more resources to use to deepen my knowledge.

Along with the technical knowledge, I'm also wary of myself as part of a development team and what makes the code I write and the reviews I leave for others' code more impactful. I understand that I have quite a bit to learn still, but one of my goals in joining up with this community is to get better insights on what the community as a whole is focused on and what other peoples' opinions are on specific subjects. From what I've read so far, I think I'm going to enjoy learning from all of you.
