Hi DEV Community — I’m Steven, an affiliate web developer

Hi DEV Community 👋

My name is Steven Doan. I’m a freelance websites developer.

I have worked with WordPress for many years, building websites for clients and affiliate projects. Recently, I’ve also been learning and building with Astro, modern static sites, and better web performance workflows.

I joined DEV to learn from other developers, improve my writing, and share my own experience as someone who has used both WordPress and modern web tools in real projects.

In the future, I plan to write about:

  • WordPress vs modern stacks
  • Astro, static sites, and performance
  • Hosting, VPS, and deployment
  • Lessons from building affiliate websites
  • Things I learn as a non-native English developer

I’m still improving my English, so my posts may not be perfect, but I want to write more, learn more, and connect with other developers here.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to DEV!

Honestly, I’d rather read practical lessons from someone running real websites than another theoretical tutorial.

WordPress, hosting, SEO, performance, affiliate marketing, and client work all expose you to problems that many developers never encounter.

Keep writing. Technical knowledge is valuable, but real-world experience is what makes it interesting.

Thank you, Mustafa. I really appreciate that.

That’s exactly the angle I want to write from. I’m not trying to pretend to be the most advanced developer. I just want to share what I learned from building real WordPress sites, dealing with hosting, SEO, performance issues, clients, and now moving some projects to a more modern stack like Astro.

I agree with you, real-world problems are often where the best lessons come from.

You’re on the right path, Steven.

One thing I’ve noticed is that moving from WordPress to modern stacks isn’t really about replacing WordPress — it’s about choosing the right tool for the right project.

WordPress is still incredibly productive for many business websites, while tools like Astro shine when performance, simplicity, and long-term maintainability become priorities.

I’d definitely be interested in reading about your migration experiences, especially the challenges, surprises, and lessons learned along the way. Those real-world stories are often more valuable than any tutorial.

Looking forward to your future posts!
