Adobe Photoshop 27.8 Lets You Train Custom AI Models on Your Own Images
Sunday, June 21, 2026 — Adobe has quietly shipped one of the most significant AI updates in Photoshop's history. Version 27.8, released today, introduces the ability to train custom AI models on your own images and use them directly inside the Generate Image feature.
Yes, you read that right. No more wrestling with generic Stable Diffusion checkpoints or ComfyUI workflows. Photoshop now lets you point at a folder of your own photography, artwork, or brand assets — and within minutes, a fine-tuned model is ready to generate new images in that exact style.
How It Works
The new workflow lives inside Generate Image (Adobe's Firefly-powered text-to-image panel). Under the hood, Adobe has added a Custom Model Trainer toggle that:
- Scans your selected image library (local or cloud)
- Trains a LoRA-style adapter directly on Adobe's servers (end-to-end encrypted)
- Deploys the model instantly to your Generate Image session
No technical skills required. No Python. No dreambooth scripts. Just select your images, name your model, and start generating.
What This Unlocks
- Brand consistency: train on your logo library, product shots, and brand guidelines — every AI generation stays on-brand
- Personal art style: illustrators and concept artists can train on their own portfolio and explore infinite variations
- Product photography: train on your catalog, then generate new lifestyle shots with consistent lighting and angles
- Legacy restoration: train on old family photos, then generate enhanced versions in the same visual language
The Bigger Picture
Adobe is positioning this as a major differentiator against Canva, Midjourney, and the open-source ecosystem. By embedding custom training directly into the tool 200 million creatives already use daily, they're betting that convenience beats complexity — and they might be right.
The update also includes OCIO 2.5 color management support for VFX pipelines and improved Neural Filters performance.
Photoshop 27.8 is rolling out now to all Creative Cloud subscribers. No extra fees for the custom model training — it's included in your subscription.
This is the kind of update that quietly changes the industry. The era of generic AI image generation is ending. The era of your own AI, trained on your own work, has just begun.
