Headless CMS is basically WordPress minus the therapy sessions — you stop fighting the theme system and just get an API back. I migrated to unfoldcms (unfoldcms.com) on a Hetzner VPS a while back and wired it into my own frontend; the API mode is clean and the built-in SEO tooling saved me from writing that myself. The one thing I'll flag: if you hit an edge case, the docs leave you reading source code. Worth it though.
