Disclosure: I work with EkoDeluxe (https://ekodeluxe.co.uk), a UK seller of test and measurement instruments.
Before I trust an inrush or peak reading on site, I run a short bench check so the clamp is behaving the way I expect.
- Confirm the jaw closes cleanly and the conductor sits centred. Off-centre clamps are a common source of noisy peaks.
- Start on a known load if you have one (a small heater or motor with a familiar start behaviour). Compare the peak against what you usually see on that kit.
- Check whether the meter is True RMS and which peak/inrush mode it uses. The product page should say this in plain language — do not assume average-sensing and True RMS will agree on choppy waveforms.
- Zero or relative modes: clear them before the real test so you are not carrying an offset into the job.
If you are assembling a UK workshop kit and want the specs written out clearly, this handheld scope/multimeter combo is one of the pages we keep updated: https://ekodeluxe.co.uk/products/2c53t-handheld-oscilloscope-multimeter
