The protagonists counter to that feeling of inadequacy is "Wait, I have a degree in astrophysics. I'm not stupid. This is hard."
So this imposter's imposter syndrome (that name makes me chuckle) I think is coming to the realization that "This is hard." Combined with acceptance.

Rolling a metaphorical bunch of natural 20s doesn't hurt, either.
