If I Had to Learn JavaScript Again: The Real Journey From 2017 to Today

Elvis Sautet on October 24, 2025

Fresh out of high school. No plan, no direction, just a laptop and a feeling that I should probably figure out what to do with my life. Eight year...

I wish I can tell juniors: "Forgot about React and learn Vue.js, because you will be able to build the same things with more joy and ask superb people if you need help."

But yea, to be honest, newbies w/o React would probably struggle finding a decent job, as everyone wants it (eventhough it is just be because "everyone wants it").

This is a great breakdown of what it takes to learn the web. Ive seen so many bootcamps that try to fit this into 6 months and the only way students pass is with tutors and i wonder how much sticks.

My journey was similar but a bit longer and it started back in the early 00s. There are so many more resources now but things are also far more complex. Its much closer to building software then a web page listing your favorite movies and bands.

Keep up the hard work. Youre never done learning.

This was such a refreshingly honest breakdown of what the real learning journey looks like. The part that hit hardest was how things finally started to click once you built something you actually cared about — not tutorial clones. The reminder that obsession, not perfection, is what moves you forward will resonate with so many beginners. Thanks for sharing the story and the practical roadmap. 🙌

Wow, what an amazing read, Elvis! 👏

I’ve gotta say, I could totally relate to so many parts of your journey — from those messy first projects to the all-nighters trying to fix bugs that made no sense. It’s wild how similar that feels!

Your story really hit home and reminded me why I fell in love with coding in the first place. Thanks for sharing this — it honestly reignited that spark to keep learning and building! 🚀
