Preface

Hello everyone, I am Evan Lin from the LINE Taiwan Developer Relations team. After more than a year of effort by LINE Developer Relations, I would like to summarize what the team has done in this article, and I also hope to make an annual report for the "LINE Developer Community Program".

According to the original Introducing Developer Relations team written by LINE Developer Relations, the main goals of this team are clearly defined as follows:

External Evangelism: Encouraging developers to use LINE's platform, APIs, and SDKs to develop attractive and interesting application services. (Encouraging people to make attractive and interesting services using the APIs and the SDK by LINE)
Internal Evangelism: Helping engineers grow and hone themselves through various means (Doing whatever our engineers feel difficult to do themselves in making improvements at work)
Technical Branding and Hiring: Letting more people know that being a LINER (LINE employees call themselves) has many interesting and exciting things. (Letting people know how fun and exciting it is for engineers to work at LINE)

The previous article has clearly defined External Evangelism, and the following will further explain Internal Evangelism and Technical Branding and Hiring.

Internal Evangelism: Helping engineers grow and hone themselves through various means

First of all, this part is mostly internal sharing and some opportunities for LINER (internally, employees in LINE are all called LINER), to have more opportunities for self-growth, and through a lot of sharing, to enable each other to understand more, and also to be able to cooperate more smoothly.

Technical Writing Day

As developers, there are always many difficulties in writing documentation, not only not knowing how to write, but also often not sure how to write documents that are easy for users to understand. Developers often think that code can express many things, but they cannot effectively write the information needed by readers or users in the documentation. In writing developer blogs, developers often don't know how to arrange their article content, order, and how to express it effectively.

Technical Writing Day is actually a series of activities planned by the LINE Technical Writer team, hoping to improve the documentation expression skills of Taiwanese technical personnel. For more details, please refer to related articles:

The First LINE Taiwan Technical Writing Day

On-Job-Training at the Japanese Headquarters

LINE attaches great importance to employee training and spares no expense in investing a lot of cost and manpower to provide high-standard training for developers. Therefore, LINE Taiwan leads newly hired developers to the Japanese headquarters for OJT new employee training several times a year. The training courses start from multiple aspects to cultivate the thinking and skills that developers need to possess. These trainings not only help specific developers to be familiar with technology, but also allow developers to understand the work content, tools used, and challenges faced by other departments. By understanding the working patterns of different teams, developers can think from the perspective of the other party when conducting cross-team cooperation, making communication smoother.

Last year, a total of three On-Job-Trainings were held. The main purpose was to hope that new colleagues could learn more about the company's infrastructure and related departmental technologies. In addition, because the development work in LINE often requires discussion and collaborative development with colleagues from Japan and Korea, it is also very important for everyone to meet and understand each other. And the scale of OJT is also gradually expanding, and now it will also start to include relevant development colleagues from Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam to participate in the Global On-Job-Training.

Leveraging Internal Creative Ideas LINE Internal AI Product and Service Hackathon - LINE Attitude

At the LINE Conference CEO held in Tokyo in 2019/09, it was said that "LINE is an AI company", and this theme also expresses that LINE hopes that every colleague can use AI to make service development and product delivery more efficient, so that users can be more convenient. Because of this, LINE actually has many related AI development teams, and there are more than a thousand related staff developers of AI services internally.

For example, the LINE Developer Official Community has recently added new functions (Official Community Helper), and "LINE Customer Service Helper" are all products generated by LINE through the AI service functions developed by the headquarters. And the eye-catching LINE Brain is packaging all AI product services into products that are easier for users or enterprise users to import.

Through this internal competition, we hope that LINE's internal developers can better understand the application methods of related AI services, and also hope that such competitions can develop amazing products or services.
