How to Select Cells Based on Color/Formatting in Excel Office 365?

Select All Cells with Similar Formatting:

To select cells with the same formatting in an Excel spreadsheet, follow the below steps.

  • Let’s consider an example of data to know how this utility works.
  • In the below image, you can see the example values and some values are in italic & bold formatting.

  • Go to the Kutools Tab, click on the Select option, then choose the Select Cells with Format option.

  • It will open the Select Cells with Format Dialog Box.
  • Find Range – You need to specify the input range using the browse button.
  • Then, you need to click on the Choose Format From Cell button to select a cell that you want to use its formatting.
  • Type – Here, all attributes of the base cell are displayed in the below list box. If you want to select all cells with the same formatting as the base cell, check all attribute options.
  • Ignore the blank cells – You can use this option if the range has blank cells and you don’t want to select them.

  • Then, click the OK button.
  • A prompt box will pop-out to tell you how many cells will be selected from the range.
  • Click the Yes button if you want to select the cells. Otherwise, you can click No option to search again.

Steps to Select All Cells by Color of a Cell:

If you want to select all cells based on the color of a cell from the range, do as follows.

  • In the below screenshot, you can see the input cells and some of them have cell color.

  • To select cells based on the cell color, go to the Kutools Tab, click on the Select option, choose the Select Cells with Format option from the menu.

  • It will open the Select Cells with Format Dialog Box.
  • Find Range – You need to specify the input range using the browse button.
  • Then, you need to click on the Choose Format From Cell button to select a cell that you want to use its formatting.
  • Type – Here, all attributes of the base cell are displayed in the below list box. If you want to select all cells with the same formatting as the base cell, check all attribute options.
  • Ignore the blank cells – You can use this option if the range has blank cells and you don’t want to select them.
  • Then, click the OK button.

  • Hit the OK button to close the prompt box and see the result.
