Prevent Special or Certain Characters From Being Typed in Cells:

In this article, we are going to see how to Prevent Special or Certain Characters From Being Typed in Cells in Excel Office 365 using Kutools. Get an official version of MS Excel from the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/microsoft-365/excel

Note: kutools for Excel has more than 180 features which are used to complete the difficult task with several clicks. If you want to use Kutools, you need to install it from Excel’s official website.

Prevent Typing in Any Special Characters:

Here are the steps to prevent typing in any special characters, do as follows.

  • First, you need to select a cell or range of cells that you want to prevent special characters from being typed in.

  • On the Kutools Tab , choose the Prevent Typing option, then select Prevent Typing option from the drop-down menu.

  • It will open the Prevent Typing dialog box.
  • You have to check Prevent type in the special characters option under the Define restrictions section.
  • Then, click the OK button.

  • After clicking the OK button, it will open the *Kutools for Excel dialog box. * This dialog box will remind you that it will remove the data validation if you apply this feature.

  • You need to click yes to continue this process. It will open the prompt box to tell you how many cells have been prevented.

  • You have to click the OK button and start typing the characters.
  • If you enter any special characters, it will show you a warning message as shown in the below screenshot.

Prevent Typing in Certain Characters:

To prevent typing in certain characters in a particular cell or range, follow the below instructions.

  • You need to select a range or column that you want to prevent certain characters from being typed in.

  • On the Kutools Tab , choose the Prevent Typing option, then select Prevent Typing option from the drop-down menu.

  • It will open the Prevent Typing dialog box.
  • You have to check the Prevent type in these chars option and enter the characters that you want to prevent typing in the cells in the given text box under the Define restrictions section.
  • If you want to prevent characters in a case-sensitive manner, then check the Case sensitive option and click the OK button.

  • Now, Kutools for Excel dialog box will be popped out to tell you that it will remove the data validation if you apply this feature.

  • You have to click Yes to continue this process.
  • After clicking the Yes button, a prompt box will open to tell you that the selection has been prevented from entering specific characters. Click OK to close this box.

  • Now, you will start entering the letters in the range.
  • If you enter any characters other than the specified characters, it will show you a warning message as shown in the below screenshot.
